Strategizing against the WTBTS

could we be doing more brothers and sisters?

i'm sure i'm not alone in wishing that there was more we could do to hasten the demise of the wtbts and to speed up the exodus of it's members.

and i'm sure i'm not alone in thinking of possible ways to do this.. one which i have been considering lately is to make use of the fact that many who leave the organization actually leave the area, move away, and start a new life.

As and elder, I read a DA letter from someone who had 'apostasized' and though a few thoughts did resonate, for the most part I dismissed it - just as I had been 'programmed' to do - as just a poor, desperate, unfortunate soul who had lost her love of the truth and fallen prey to that nasty 'ol Satan character. So I pretty much know any full frontal assault on the avg. JW is going to fizzle at best.

Personally, I think humor can go a LONG way, not only in making life 'mentally out, physically in' more manageable, but also in highlighting the fallacies, inconstancies and untruths to friends and loved ones in a way that is more palatable/innocuous seeming. It can be fun too! Had much fun going on about the Ten Toe Tract prophecy talk on the way back from the DC and everyone had a good laugh.

let's call it a very ugly version of "joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat" recreated as a musicless "a young life serving god ain't worth living.".

it included a highly fictionalized account of joseph being abused by his brothers for serving god and being loved by jacob.

there was no mention of joseph's dreams that degraded his brothers and father.

Billy - the need for the 'good' JW kid to have an alibi upset even my wife. What happened to 'two witnesses?' I guess that's just for child molesters...

However, she later reasoned that because the good JW kid had put in for Aux Pioneering that month, he needed an alibi so as to be 'beyond reproach'

What was your volunteer job(s) at DCs?

seeing as it's that time of year i've been reminiscing.

i used to volunteer as i really struggled to sit still all day, even with all the note-taking and sitting next to the deaf loop system and watching the bsl interpreter to try and learn a bit of bsl.. i have.... counted and voided food tokenspacked fruit bags at a sandwich stallcleaned the stadium at opening and closingcleaned and attended ladies toiletsmanned (or should that be womanned?!

Magwich - yes, Chairman's Office is the correct term ( I called it the 'Green Room' ) and yes, it did make you feel special - you're in with the in crowd! The other atttendants on their feet all day in the warm, humid corridors and such were envious of the Chariman's Office assignment.

FirstLastName - you got it right - volunteering for these 'privileges' was all about getting away from the INSANE BOREDOM of the convention.

Almost forgot, I always wanted to send the garbage bags down the 'zip cord' into the dumpster at Yankee Stadium. It looked like such fun, and very distracting!

Attendant - being an attendant over a seating section at a stadium DC was certainly an eye opener for a lot of brothers. The myth of your 'brothers and sisters' being so loving, cooperative, submissive and kind goes right out the window! These people can be seriously some of the most selfish, rude, ignorant and uncaring people you will find on earth. My wife and I found ourselves asking each other, " Why do these people even go to the trouble of showing up? You couldn't call them christian in even the remotest sense!"
The best job I ever had, though, was being attendant at the door of the "Green Room" where all the heavies sat. There was a HUGE spread of coffee, Danishes etc all day long. The DO sat there with several large binders full of the talk outlines/manuscripts and followed along to make sure no one veered off course. Those who gave their 'experiences' during the program got shuffled up there after their parts to be thanked for their participation and eat free food in crispy-cool air conditioning. And of course it was my job to guard the door to keep out the riffraff and those wicked apostates who were 'evidently' after the cheese platter.

i attended a convention recently but didn't wear a badge i was treated with the utmost suspicion.

particularly when i arrived during the sessions one day.

the attendant didn't want me wandering off to find a seat on my own.

Billy - Yes! These are the 'visitors' who are hoping to 'qualify'(according to the Ten Toes Tract) for everlasting friggin' life!

Actually, to be perfectly honest....
Our DC had a major, well, what I will call an 'upstate NY contingent' (please, no offense upstate NYers!). The 'visitors' for the public talk looked like they were related to Larry's brothers Darryl on the Newhart show.

The other general consensus we had with regards to this latest theatrical endeavor was that if this was the 'cleaned up' 'disneyfied' version of what's REALLY going on in families, they are in deep TROUBLE as far as retaining young people.

Welcome 789 and thanks to all for the comments...
botchtowersociety - yes, at first you would think it would be excruciating, but if you're able to view it as a huge sociological study, it's actually quite fascinating! In fact, this is the first year I can remember not ever experiencing "assembly rage" and I was actually the most enthusiastic 'convention delegate' of the group I was with.

Another quick first impression:
Day one, after initial musical 'prelude', song, prayer etc...
'I FEEL LIKE I AM ATTENDING A NORTH KOREAN POLITICAL RALLY'
Yikes! What the hell have I done with my life!

As the title indicates, the 2011 summer convention was my first one 'mentally out', and WOW! How can anyone stand this stuff? Just one for instance-

But seriously, I was shocked at the blatant fear tactics used at the convention. Like the Catholic church used hell to manipulate its followers, the Society loves to scare the masses back into their loving arms with Demon Fear.

Anyone else mentally out within the last year or so who has endured this fine spiritual banquet with your new set of eyes?
